Grade Level Information Hub
At Westborough Middle School, we’re committed to providing a well-rounded education that prepares students for success in high school and beyond. Here you’ll find curriculum details and resources for each grade level—6th, 7th, and 8th—along with the programs and opportunities that support every student’s growth and achievement.
6th Grade
6th graders take a core curriculum of English language arts (ELA), math, social studies, science, and physical education (PE).
7th Grade
7th graders build on the foundation from 6th grade, continuing their study of English language arts (ELA), math, social studies, science, and physical education (PE). Most students also take one elective that meets every other day for 83 minutes.
8th Grade
8th graders continue building on their middle school foundation as they prepare for the transition to high school, studying English language arts (ELA), math, social studies, science, and physical education (PE). As in 7th grade, most students take one elective that meets every other day for 83 minutes.
English Language Development (ELD) 6-8
SSFUSD’s English Language Development (ELD) program supports multilingual learners in building the language skills needed to succeed in grade-level academic content. At the middle school level, students receive either a dedicated ELD class or embedded support within language arts. Instruction is delivered by credentialed teachers, and students are grouped by proficiency level to support language growth.
Designated English Language Development (D-ELD) provides daily, targeted instruction to help multilingual learners build social and academic English. Instruction is explicit, standards-based, and aligned to the California ELD Standards. Teachers are supported through ongoing professional development, including training in GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) and California Reading & Literature Project's (CRLP) linguistically responsive instruction.
Promotion
As 8th graders enter their final year, we want every student to finish strong and celebrate all they have accomplished. 8th grade promotion is a milestone we look forward to recognizing with each and every student, and our staff is here to support students in meeting the expectations below.
To participate in the 8th grade promotion ceremony, students are expected to meet the following criteria throughout the school year:
-
Maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher, averaged across four academic quarters
-
Demonstrate consistent school attendance and positive behavior
-
Have fewer than 5 days of suspension within the school year
-
Have no suspensions during the month of May
We believe every student is capable of learning, thriving, and making a positive impact — and promotion is our opportunity to celebrate that together as a community. Families who have questions or concerns about their student's progress are encouraged to reach out to their student's teacher or school counselor early — we are here to help.
Please note: The school principal retains final discretion regarding student participation in the promotion ceremony.
